MDLLE. ANTONIA DOLORES. — ♦ . Referring to Mdlle. Dolores' first recital in Melbourne, the Age says :—: — Before this charming singer had sung many notes on Saturday evening the large audience could not have better expressed their feelings than in Shakespeare's words, " With all my heart, I'll sit and hear her sing." The accomplished soprano seems, if possible, to have improved during her absence. Each note is, as (he Italians would say, " as round as the O of Giotto" ; there is the same certainty of taking the higher head notes either with full or half voice ; the same splendid training in breath* ing, so that a whole long phrase appears to be delivered on one breath ; the same versatile linguistic talent ; and, above all, the gift of adopting the tone of feeling to the varying mood of the pieces sung. The programme was a yory fine one, and was made more interesting than usual by the inclusion of many ancient pieces seldom heard. During the evening Mdlle. Dolores sang 16 songs, and it is hard to say which was best reoeived. A collection of gems describes the programme. Mr Robert Clarence Newall is pianist with Mdle. Dolores. He possesses very good technique, easy control of the keyboard, and his touch is delicate and firm. LOYAL UNION LODGE, 1.0.0. F., M.U , No. 6480. A FAREWELL SOCIAL to Bro.
