ACCIDENT TO A NORTHERN COMPANY'S STEAMER.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, February 22. Tho Northern S.S. Company's steamer Paeroa, when entering Whakatane Heads with passengers at six o'clock this morning, broke her steering gear, and ran on the rocks, striking amidship. After an anxious time the incoming tide floated her off. One of her boiler tubes burst, and the boiler shifted. Most of the passengers were landed in an open boat. The steamer is now beached.
