THE PLAGUE. Received February 24, 1.22 a.m. Sydney, February 23. Three women, named Dignan, Gilbert, and Outran, were attacked by plague at the Criterion Hotel, and a man, ] Williams, in Sussex street. Since j November 29 cases have been reported. Brisbane, February 24. Russell, brother of a former patient, is plagued. COLONIAL EXHIBITION. Received February 24th, 9 a.m. London, February 23. The Colonial Exhibition at the Royal Exchange opens on March 14th. NAVAL APPOINTMENTS. Admiral Sir J. A. Fisher has replaced Admiral A. L. Douglas on the Board of Admiralty. The latter has been appointed to Admiral Fisher's late command (the North American and West Indian stations). Admiral Sir Compton Domville commands the Mediterranean Fleet. THE MEAT CONTRACTS. Received February 24, 1.6 a.m. London, February 23. Bergl's tender and undertaking that live and dead meat should be obtained as far as possible from the colonies have been published as a Parliamentary paper. The tender states that it is made on oehalf of a syndicate, including Houlder Bros, and the Federal Steamship Company, and, in the event of its acceptance, the syndicate guaranteed to establish cold stores in South- Africa.
