NORMANBY. TOWN BOARD.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The monthly meeting of the above < was held on 17th inst. Present : Com- 1 missioners Eowe (chairman), Exley and '. Grant. Commissioner Stewart sent an < apology. ; Correspondence from B. Chambers offering acetylene gas generator nnd holder for lighting up Town Hall. — Resolved, That tbe letter will be acknowledged, but that, in view of the offer of the electric light recently made to the Board, the offer cannot be entertained. The Sanitary Inspector reported favorably on tbe general cleanliness of the township. Messrs J. Bedding and J. Wilson will | be notified to grub up and clear off brambles and gorse now growing ■ opposite their properties, and Mr E. Harrison will be notified to trim hedges. Mr D. Green will be notified that if his contract for delivery of gravel is not resumed within seven days from date of notice, and continued to its completion, the Board will take steps to complete the work at his expense. Resolved, That the County Council be written to calling their attention to the unsatisfactory state of the county roads running through the four districts wbich will need repairs before the winter sets in. Also that tbe Council be informed that, notwithstanding this Board having spent nearly £300 over and above county rates received during the last eleven years, this Board Mas resolved to adhere strictly to a resolution passed on 20th October, 1890, and communicated to 'the Council at this time, and from this date, the county rates only will be expended on the county road. Further,' that this Board will not be liable or responsible for, any accident that may arise from the faultiness of the roads in question. Mr Fred Hardy, the well-known and enterprising saddler, has opened a branch establishment in new premises next to Mr L. Kitchen's coaohbuilding factory on tbe main road. No doubt Mr Hardy will be well patronised by the residents and settlers, as the branch is under the able management of Mr Griffith, who is well known for firstclass workmanship. I regret to say that Mr D. Home, a very old and respected settler, was taken to tbe Hawera Hospital on Friday, suffering from extreme weakness, his age being close upon eighty years.
