SIR J. G. WARD ON TOUR.

♦ (per pbess association.) Auckland, February 20. Speaking at Dargaville, Sir J. G. Ward referred to the question of the amount paid in interest and sinltiog fund out of tbe consolidated fund, as shown in the Year Book, and said he did so in consequence of the criticisms of some papers relative to his remarks concerning this matter when speaking at Greymouth. The papers had fallen into a mistake, probably due to tbe word " taxation " having been telegraphed instead of "interest." The figures from 1896 to 1901 showed that bhe loan rate of interest had gone down From £2 83 4d to £2 5s 6d. This was due to tho conversion of loans upon which higher rates of interest had previously been paid.
