THE MEAT CONTRACTS.
Received February 19,10.45 p.m. London, February 19. Mr Montague Nelson considers tbe meat contract fairly good. There is every reason to hope the bulk of the meat supplied will be Australian. His offer to supply at per pound above cost was not entertained. ' Received February 20, 0.26 a.m. London, February, 19. Mr J. C. Wason, M.T. for Orkney and Shetland, publishes a letter in the Times complaining that owing to cheaper land taxes and wages in Argentine, the colonies are no m6re able to compete in point of price in the meat contracts than can English gardners with Chinamen. Yet the quality of colonial meat is superior.
