FARM AND DAIRY.

IMPORTED BULL. The Shorthorn bull, Buscott Adonis, just imported from England by Mr A. A. Fantham, of Egmont View, Hawera, is a rich roan, calved Sept. 16, 1900, and was bred by Mr A. Henderson, M.P., Buscofct Park, Farrington. The bull is by Squire (77951 English Stud Book), by Adonis 2nd (60240), out of Roan Pansy, and his pedigree on both sides runs back through the herd book for many years. Such an importation is of value to the whole colony as well as to Taranaki, and we hope Mr Fantham's continuous enterprise in importing high bred stock will be rewarded financially as well as by the compliments and thanks of his fellow settlers. BACON INDUSTRY. A Sydney paper says that of all New Zealand industries, the hardest hit by | the Federal tariff is bacon curing. The duty of 3d alb will kill New Zealand's I trade to the Commonwealth. The Australian market was looked upon as a big one, South Africa having proved a bad froßt, and Mr Seddon's new pets, tbe Islanders, not using much pickled pork. The duty should give an enormous fillip to hog raising in Australia. A large business could be done by big capitalists understanding the work, who would take up northern alluvial lands, cultivate maize, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, etc., on a big scale, and feed the produce to pigs wholesale.
