RIFLE SHOOTING.

» ■ A fine bit of shooting has been recorded by Mr Moore, a honorary . member of the Hawera Rifles. At three ranges, seven shots at each, he ( put on 99 out of 105, the scores being : 300 yds, 35; 500 yds, 33; 600 yds. 81. With a sighter, he placed eight " bulls " ; at 300 yards, a feat very rarely accom- ] plished. ; The first of four competitions for Kelly's Gup and the Captain's Ohampion Belt was fired for by the Saturday squad on the 15th. The shooting at the first two ranges was fair, but, owing to the changeable light and rising wind, fell off at 600 yards. These competitions promise to be very interesting, especially as the handicaps for the Cup are sealed. The following are the Saturday's scores : — . 300 500 600 Tl. Corporal Somerville 25 32 25 82 Private Poole ... 27 27 25 79 Sergeant Ekdahl ... 28 32 17 77 Private W.
