(Continued from page 2.) DINGLB BOAD. J. Dastow waited on the Boatd asking that about 12 chains of this road, from the Main South road southwards, be metalled. The road had been graded, and in winter, if not metalled, would be impassable. He offered to pay one or two years' rates in advance in order that the works might be put in hand. Mr T. Owen also wrote, offering to pay rates in advance, so that funds would be available to do the work. After discussion, it was resolved, 11 That £30 be expended on tbe works." (Wilkie— Henson). MANAIA ROAD. W. Z. Wells waited on the Board, stating that he had received promises of £40 private subscriptions towards metalling this road, and he thought he could secure another £10. These amounts, together with tbe Board's subsidy of £2 for £1, would metal a fair portion of the portion requiring doing. After a long discussion on the requirements at different spots of this road, it was resolved, That tenders be called for works on Barleyman's frontage, when the amount of private subscriptions is deposited with the Board. I Henson — Bridge). Mr Hastie here took his seal;. MAIN SOUTH BOAD. Resolved, That tenders he invited for blinding the shingle on this road between the Kapuni stream and the Inaha road, to close at next meeting. (Wilkie— Henson.) OPUNAKE BOAD. Mr Morton, in attendance, asked that rates accruing to this road between the Oeo and Auroa roads be extended in repairs to the road to the Auroa road. The latter road was tbe outlet, whilst none of the settlers used the other route to the Oeo road. Mr Morton went into the history of the opening up of the Opunake road and the Eltham road, stating that the late Mr John Ballance had promised 15 years ago at Opunake that the Eltham road would be metalled right through within two years of his, visit. He (Mr Morton), on the stength of this, had taken up land on the Opunake road (only two sections back from the Eltham road), but the Eltham road was finally metalled by loan moneys a few years ago, and he bad to contribute to same by way of special rates, and was also included in the loan area of the Auroa road loan. He still had "no road " on the Opunake road. It was finally resolved, That £15 be expended in repairs. (Wilkie — Henson.) AUROA ROAD. Mr Wilkie again brought up the question of the state of this road, which, he said, was worn through. JNo provision was being made for maintaining it, and the Board was not doing its duty in allowing a " loan " road to disappear. He and Mr Hastie had, at last meeting, advocated something being done, but had been out-voted. Mr Henson said it seemed to him that to neglect the Auroa road, and vote moneys to metal the Kaponga streets to their full width (a luxury), was" rather out of place. He was sorry be was absent from the last meeting, 'or he would have supported tbe northern I members in their attempts to do some- ' thing for tbe road. A long discussion ensued, each member giving an opinion on the subject. It was finally resolved, That £35 be expended on the Auroa road between the Eltham and Opunake roads, and that Mr Wilkie be asked to interview Messrs Farkes and Brooker in tbe matter of subsidising tbe Board's expenditure. (Hastie — Henson.) UPPER WINKS ROAD. Resolved, • That the Foreman attend . to the necessary grading required at the worst spots on this road. (Wilkie — Bridge.) RIDING ACCOUNTS. Resolved, That the Olerk write to the County Council urging that the Board be supplied with detailed riding accounts in connection with the Waimate Riding, and to point out that previously these statements had been asked for, but without effect. (Wilkie— Bridge.) VALUATIONS. The Sydenham circular re valuations was rdad. Resolved, That this Board supports the resolutions passed by the Conference at Sydenham on 16th July, 1901, and, further, considers tnat the late valuations were excessive and most unsatis- ' factory, and the cost of revision expensive. (Borrie— Powdrell.) CATTLB ON ROADS. Messrs Powdrell and Hastie complained of tbe town cows wandering on the Sutherland road,' and damaging ditches, banks, and hedges. The ranger will be requested to make himself prominent on this road. RAGWORT. Resolved, That the attention of the Stock Inspector (the Inspector under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1900) be drawn to the fact of ragwort rapidly spreading over the district, and pointing out the urgent Inecessity of. the matter receiving immediate attention, as the weeds are Beeding^ (Wilkie-Powdrell.) Humphries, 4s (accepted). 331 — Mangawhero road (northern) : None received. Humphries, 3s 6d (accepted) ; E. Blackball, 3s 7d. [After the Board rose, a tender was opened, O. Morris, 3s sd, which had arrived by tbe afternoon mail, too late to be dealt with. | 333— Palmer road (central): F. J. Muir, 3s (accepted) ; Fitch and Reynolds, 3s 6d. 334 — Manaia road (southern) : Two tenders were received, but, being considerably over what tbe Board con^ sidered a fair prioe, the Foreman was directed to invite fresh alternate tenders, to olose on 26th insfc., for delivery of shingle, delivery and breaking of shingle, and for crushed metal. 335 — Main South road (western end) : O'Sullivan and Twomey, 3s lOd (acoepted) ; T. The Foreman reported, among other things, as to Contract 312, Glenn road (D., Green). Work on this contract has not been re-commenced in accordance with resolution passed at last meeting of the Board. Taikatu road (southern sub-divi-sion). — This is one of the roads scheduled to be formed and gradedi The work will need to stand over till the early part of next season, owing to a large growth of rubbish, which would make the work costly. The report was read and received. Resolved, That Green be given notice , to re-commence operations on his Glenn Road contract within 7 days from date. Failing his compliance with this, the contract be determined, an,d all moneys 1 accruing due be declared forfeited ; and i fresh tenders be called for completion of ' the works. (Bridge— Henson ) i The usual accounts were passed for i payment, and the Board rose. [This report with other matter from our correspondent should have ap1 peared several days ago.
