A very pleasing social took place, after the- usual choir practice, at the Presbyterian Churoh last evening, when a presentation was made to Mr and Mrs Duxfield as a email token of esteem. The present was a handsome silver teapot. The Cboirmaßter, in a few we'l chosen words, wished them every success in life, and expressed the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Duxfield were held in the choir., Mr Duxfield suitably responded. At a successful social, held on Friday evening in the Methodist Church, the opportunity was taken of Baying farewell and of presenting a small token of regard from members of the church to Mr A. Worsfold, who is shortly leaving Hawera. Rev. J. Cokes, in making the presentation, spoke feelingly of the regret felt at his departure from onr midst, and referred to the positions he had so worthily filled during his stay in Hawera, and, on behalf of members oonneoted with the church presented him with two beautiful editions by Dean Earrar of "The Life of Christ " and " The Lifa of St. Paul." Messrs Dixon, Barraoloagh, J. Foy, Hutchens and Strack also spoke endorsing the ■' Chairman's remarks. Mr Worsfold, in replying, thanked the members for their kindness ?o himself, his wife, and family duriDg his sojourn among them. He regretted that the state of his wife's health necessitated his leaving the diltrict, and he was in hopes that the warmer climate of Australia would be a means of ' restoring her to her normal health. In parting, he offered a few words of advice to young mcii, referring to some of the temptations that beset the business man, and urging all to have honest ambitions and to at all times adhere to them. Speoial bank holidays are advertised. Mr Garry requires a floorman.
