THE WAR.

MR CHAMBERLAIN ON THE IRRECONOILABLES.

Reoeived February 15, 0.35 a.m.

.London, February 14. * Mr Chamberlain, in a speech at bis presentation, justified, on the ground of self-preservation, the banishment of irreconcilable . leaders — the . worst enemies of South Africa, who had lately expressed a hope that* a fresh opportunity would arise of sweeping tbe English into the sea. He added, "We shall not treat with them; not even touch their property. Our duty was to show that disloyalty does not always pay."

"One people, one destiny." g Mr Balfour declared that Mr Chamberlain had gained a position in the world of British statesmen second to none.
