A MOLTKE STORY.

A celebrated German general of the Franco-Prussian war has recently published his reminiscences, in which is an interesting story of the great Yon Moltke. He bad criticised the strategist freely and adversely in a letter to his wife, and by a breach of trust on the part of a friend this found its way into print. Whatever he may have known about strategy, he knew bis Yon Moltke. On the occasion of a great public dinner, and in the presence of the Emperor, he took tbe opportunity to refer to the matter, and commenced, " I once took the liberty of criticising Count Yon Moltke. It was in a letter to my wife, and " " Stop," said the- great tactician, "if it were in a letter to your wife, we have no right to know anything at all about it*. Such confidences are, or should be, sacred." And the offender knew that Count Yon Moltke would never read that criticism, even if he chanced to come across it.
