LORD DX3FFERIN.
Received February 18, 9.40 a.m.
Londok, February 13. The death is announced of Lord Dufferin, one of the most distinguished ambassadors who has ever served tbe British Empire. He was born in 18Sfl| and bad a splendid scholastic career at Eton and Oxford. He was L.L.D. of Harvard, Doctor of Oriental Learning, Punjaub University. Among other positions held by him from time to time, he was Under-Seoretary for India, Governor- General of Canada, and successively Ambassador to Russia, Turkey, Italy, and France. He retired in 1896, and his health has lately been very feeble.
