TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.
The Shamrock Hotel has just received a thorough renovating. Extensive additions have also been made, which comprise five bedrooms and a commercial room. Formerly the only public en. trances were from Princes street. Now a side entrance has besn provided, which opens into a hall 6 feet wide, leading direct to the dining room, while on the right hand side is the commercial room, and further on the staircase leading to the upstairs portion of the building, so that the bar is completely shut off. The commercial room (whioh can also be reached from Princes street through a lofty archway) is 14ft x 15ft, with ashed of 12ft, and is a most cheerful room, the selection of wallpaper having been a very happy one. In the room are easy lounges, and everything that can conduce to the comfort of travellers. A fine new bedroom has besn created on the groundfloor. The four new bedrooms upstairs are bright and comfortabe, and very nicely furnished. Two patent w.c.'s have been provided upstairs, acid the bathroom has been renovated, and is now fitted with both hot, cold, and shower baths. The upstairs sittingroom is beautifully furnished, and should be much appreciated by visitors. The passages have all been provided with new linoleum. The fire escape is most conveniently situated, and allows of an easy descent to the yard. The dining-room is a very large one, and has been thoroughly renovated. The proprietor, Mr Alex. A. Leslie, is to be congratulated on bis enterprise. As will be seen by business notice the tariff is a moat liberal one. The contractors for the alterations were Messrs Whiting and Fryer, and Mr W. Day carried out the work of painting and papering.
