When the matter of appointing paid judges and starters was under consider* ation at a meeting of the Mastorton Racing Club, a member suggested that one individual should not be allowed to monopolise tho business ; all good men should be given a chance. The same remarks also applied to handicapping. The Taranaki Herald sporting writer states that J. O'Brien, who was found dead at Opunake, is identical with J. O'Brien who used to be a prominent racing man in South Canterbury and North Otago some years ago.
