Mr Pickering, President of the New, Zealand Council of the Fire Under* writers' Association, states that the total fire losses last year amounted to £385,609. To this has to be added the oost of management. The total fire premiums were about £350,000.

There is a regular colony of dogs in tbe hills surrounding Earangahake, and in two days they killed 200 fowls.
