Melbouhne, February 8. The Premier of Tasmania has suggested to the Right Hon. E. Barton, Federal Premier, a conference between the Commonwealth and States Governments, to settle a number of matters, including the question of the TasmanianNew Zealand Pacific cables. Mr Barton consults the Cabinet.

Pending receipt of the tariff from the Lower House, the Senate has adjourned for a fortnight. A party of senators are to view during thßt period thirteen sites in New South Wales for a Federal capital.

The Commonwealth revenue through the Customs, if based on that of the past three months, will yield over ten millions.
