Some practical joker started a report at New Plymouth that De Wet had been captured with 600 men, and naturally this news spread like wild-fire, with the result that we (the Herald) were inundated with excited enquiries on the subject, to which we could only reply that there was no troth in the rumour.

A Gißborne paper states that tho Wbakatane Heads last week was the scene of an accident of an uncommon and particularly sensational character. The Good Die Young. Unlike most popular sayings, this has very little truth in it. Experience every day proves that Borne at least of the good are spared to make the world brighter and better, and a more pleasant place to live. In fact, our experience i 8 that good people, and good things generally live the longsßt. For example, consider the thousands of artilces which have been widely advertised and are now forgotten. Why? Because they were bad. On the other hand, we have Holloway's Pills and Ointment, whioh have proved the faithful friend of poor humanity for fifty years and more. Why ? Because they are good.
