FIRE IN NEW PLYMOUTH
i At eight o'clock on Thursday night, the Taranaki News reports, an outbreak ! of fire was discovered in the premises occupied by the London Dental Institute, Dresden Piano Company, C. P. Cottier, photographer, G. Barr-Brown, and J. C. Davios, land and commission agents. The brigade were on the scene in a remarkably short space of time, but within a few minutes the flames were bursting through the roof in a large body. Leads of hose were got to work from the Devon street frontage, and from the back, and after some difficulty the brigade succeeded in suppressing the flames. By 9.80 all danger was over. The whole of Mr Cottier's upstairs rooms, the studio, dark-room, and storeroom, etc., were practically gutted. The London Dental work-room was also burnt out, and. the roof between that and Cottier's, between which there was only a thin partition, was charred. Fortunately, the Coffee Palace escaped with only trifling damage, a window being cracked and a little water having got into one or two rooms.
The Norwegian law prohibits a, person from spending more than 2Jd a visit to a public-house.
