AN EXCITING INCIDENT.

Some excitement was caused at Queenscliff, Victoria, the other day, on the passengers of an excursion steamer seeing a young girl floundering fn the water near the landing stage. While people were excitedly getting out ropes and lifebuoys, a prompt rescuer dashed up, and commenced divesting himself of his clothing, preparatory to jumping in. When he had thrown off one suit it was seen that he wore another. Hurriedly he tore it off, and anxious watchers cheered him on. The second suit was at last got rid of, only to bring in view another. The excitement became intensified, but still the heioic life-saver peeled off suit after suit, and just when the crowd was at its last gasp of bewilderment and suit number six had gone, lie plunged in and rescued the drowning girl, who, however, proved to be a boy dressed up. The enterprising biograph photographer who had been in the background then hurriedly snapped up his camera, and fled from the deluded and enraged spectators.
