(per press association.) Wellington, February 4. In the Supreme Court Jack Taiwhanga, who was convicted yesterday of theft at Palineraton North, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.

A juror who was over age was excused by the District Judge this (Wednesday) morning, and another wbd was slightly bard of hearing was released from service.

Three little girls named Hansen were bathing in the sea at Gisborne the other day when they sank, being unable to swim. The three girls were pluokily rescued by a lad named Jack Harding, aged 15 years.

There was only one absentee when the jurors summoned to hear the District Gourt cases were called on this (Wednesday) morning, viz., George Coekerton, and a fine of 40s was inflicted. His Honor said it was somewhat remarkable that in a scattered district, out of a panel of 36, there was only one absentee. Later in the day, Mr Gockerton arrived and gave an explanation which His Honor accepted, and the fine was remitted.
