DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED.
London, February 3.
Brierre, who was sentenced to death at.Chartres, for tbe murder of five children, had his sentence commuted by penal servitude for life. Many felt that the presiding judge was unfair, while other petitioners emphasized the absence of a confession.
CORONATION.
London, February 3.
Sir H. Tozer, Agent-General for Queensland, interviewed on the question of the subordination of State Premiers at the Coronation, declared that any attempt to subordinate State Governors to the Governor-General, by sending reports through the latter would be equally against the wishes of Australia.
