The Foxton Racing Club's profit on tbe recent race meeting amounted to £300, and taking into consideration the outstanding liabilities for the improvements on the course, the balance to profit after paying these would be about £140.

Writing to the Gisborne Herald, Mr George H. Allen says: — Seeing so much dissatisfaction about handicaps by owners and trainers, ibis time there was a change. I would suggest the following remedy, which I think will better racing and produce better riders : — Every owner his own handicapper ; class racing will do away with handicaps and handicappers. Class 1, 7st 71b. AH ages and all distances. "When a horse wins stakes to the value of £50, 51b extra ; £100, 101b extra; £150, is then transferred to Class 2. Class 2, 75t 101b. When horse wins £100, 51b extra ; £200, 101b extra : £300, leaves for Class 3. Class 3, 7st 121b. When horse wins £200, 51b extra; £300, 101b extra; £500, leaves for Class 4. Class 4, Bst. When horse wins £250, slb extra; £500, 101b i extra ; £750, leaves for Class 5. 1 Class 5, Bst 51b. When horse wins £300, 51b extra; £500, 101b extra ; £1000, leaves for Class 6. Class 6, Bst 101b. When horse wins £500, 51b extra; £1000, 101b extra; £1500, leaves for Class 7. Class 7, 9st. When horse wins £500, 51b extra ; £1000, 101b extra ; £1500, 141b extra; £2000, leaves for Class 8. My contention is that the above scale wiil give every horse a ohance, and will do away with' weeds and rubbish as are at present racing in handicaps.
