TATTERSALL'S SWEEPS.

Received February 3, 9.33 a.m.

Melbourne, February 3. A Federal Gazette proclaims Tattersail's. It is hinted the difficulty regarding the carrying on of the sweeps in Australia may be got over by arranging for subscribers to pay then: money into a bank to the credit of Tattersall's, and receiving tickets through the post from Hobart. The letters, being addressed to private individuals, could not be interfered with.

Auckland, February 2. In the last race at Takapuna, the gelding Brilliant, ridden by W. Sat man fell and broke his leg. The horse ha, to be shot. Satman was unhurt.

Taranaki J.C. acceptances to-night. The Auckland Star says it is not settled whether Coronet will race at Taranaki and Egmont. Prior to the Takapuna meeting it was considered unlikely that Castor's fine son would make the Southern journey. ' George Robson, who steered Glenloth to victory in the Melbourne Cup of 1892, has, it transpires, been fighting for the King and Empire in South Africa, and it will be heard with regret with serious results to himself. The Melbourne Sportßman states that Robson is in the General Hospital, Standerton, pulling through the effects of a bullet wound under the heart. His left lung was penetrated, but, according to Robson's own showing, there was every chance of recovery. Robson, when he struck the trouble, was a member of Waldron's Horse, and they were evidently right in the thick of the lead. In bis letter, Robson talks of returning to Australia when strong enough to travel.
