THE ARMY MEAT CONTRACTS.
Received January 30, 10 a.m. Brisbane, January 80. Exception has been taken to the cable sent by the Right Hon. E. Barton Federal Premier, on January Brd, to the Right Hon. J. Chamberlain, to tbe effect that he was personally informed if there were proper facilities available for Australian firms to tender direct, an offer would be made Jo supply 3000 tons of mutton and beef monthly, at s£d ex store, discharging at three ports in South Africa. A Viotorian firm in London had tendered (including distribution) at the price Mr Barton wanted ex store.
Tbe Stanley meat contract provides for the supply of fresh meat at one price and frozen meat at another.
