London, January 29. The Colonial Club gave a banquet to Sir Herbert Chermside, the new Governor of Queensland, and Lord Lamington, ex Governor, at the Hotel Cecil. Sir Herbert paid a high tribute to Australian troops. Lord Lamington said he believed that time would smooth out Queensland's difficulties incidental to federation.
