Wellington, January 27, The Department of Agriculture has | received the following cable from the Agent-General, dated London, 25th instant : — Average prices to-day on spot : Canterbury mutton, 3Jd; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company, 3Jd ; other North Island, 3jd. The mutton market is dull. Eiver Plate mutton is in large supply. The lamb market is quiet. Australian lamb is in large supply, but is of very mixed quality. New season New Zealand brands, other than Canterbury, 5Jd (nominal). Shipments of River Plate lamb are increasing. New Zealand beef : Hinds, 4§d; fores, 3d. Stocks of New Zealand beef on.hand are very light and firmly held. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. The butter market is steady. Light shipments of butter are expected. Prices are unaltered. The cheese market is firm. New Zealand cheese is giving satisfaction to buyers at 60s. The hemp market is firm. There is a better demand for hemp. New Zealand, "good fair Wellington" grade, £34 10a; FebruaryApril shipment, £33 10s. Tbe cocksfoot seed market is quiet.
