ELTHAM.

(FKOM OUR RESIDENT AGENT.)

Tho Eltham Rifle Volunteers, who have, been in camp on tbe Domain since last Thursday evening, are putting in some excellent training. The number under canvas has been large, and, though the weather on the two first evenings was the reverse of fine, quite a number of interesting evolutions were gone through, which should still further add to the efficiency of the corps. The camp is under the command of Captain Boddie, and the other officers are Lieuts. Velvin and McSkimming. Sergeant-Major Peacock, Government drill instructor, was with the men until Saturday last, putting them through their facings. Yesterday the corps held a church parade, when 45 rank and file marched to the Primitive Methodist Church, where service appropriate to the occasion was carried out by the Rev. G. P. Hunt (formerly of Eltham, but now stationed in Wellington). Special hymns were sung, and the service was very impressive. In the afternoon the members entertained the townspeople at tea, tbe tables being laid under the beautiful shade of the trees in the Domain. There was a very large attendance of the public, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. The camp will close on Wednesday evening next, when v, concert will be given, to which the public will be invited. The camp has, so far, been in every way successful. Jan. 27.
