GOUDIE'S ACCOUNT.

The rest of the day was occupied with the evidence of Mr Hudson, whose name Goudie forged to such purpose, and that of the bank managers. The testimony of Mrs Stanswood, of the Princess Road branch of Lloyd's Bank in Liverpool, showed that' Goudie began his operations of Mr Hudson's account in a modest ffishion in December, 1899. Masquerading as John Stile, .oil and colourman, o£ Gray-street, Goudie . asked Mr Stanswood to collect a cheque fos £100, purporting to be drawn by R. W. Hudson on the Bank of Liverpool. The cheque was collected without difficulty, and the proceeds handed to Goudie. On March 22, .1900, Goudie opened an account at the bank. He still gave the name of Stile, but said he was then carrying on business at Thornton Place, Liverpool Road. He opened the account with a cheque for £300 purporting to be signed by R. W. Hudson. Witness proceeded to give a list of cheques which continue ally increased in value, paid in by "Stile," who drew drafts against them, payable at the head office of the bank in London — one in the name of John Morton and the others in favour of T. J. Kelly. "Stile" on his own account drew two sums of £ 10d and £300. The account was operated on until May, 1901, and there is now standing to "Stile's" credit £176 18/6. Against that money the Bank of Liverpool has obtained an injunction. The prisoners were remanded till next Monday, Mr Fenwick refusing to listen .to any proposals for bailing them out.
