PALMERSTON STOCK REPORT.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Palmerston sale on Thursday : — We had a large yarding of well bred cattle, but sheep did not come forward according to advertised numbers, owing no doubt to the inclement weather. In spite of the rain, and although there were race meetings and other attractions, there was a good attendance of the public, and bidding ayiimes was brisk. A very nice line of 86 quiet band-fed empty heifers elicited keen competition, and realised the good price of £4. A pen of prime fat heifers made £6 5s 6d. With the exception of a line of 18 months steers and a few store cows, we quitted the whole of our entry at slightly enhanced values, and we anticipate that to-day's good rain will tend to still further harden both the cattle and sheep market. We quote :— Sheep— Lambs, 7s ; forward ewes, 7s. Cattle : Weaners, 235, 26s 6d, 355 ; yearling steers, L 2 6s ; yearling heifers, L 2 2s 6d ; 18-month heifers, L 3 7s 9d, L 4; 2year steers, L 4; 2£ to 3 year steers, L 5 23 6d, L 5 ss ; forward bullocks, L 6 ss ; fat cows, L 4 11s ; prime fat heifers, L 6 5s 6d ; springing cows, L 3 19s, LS 14s, L 8; heifers in calf, L 5 2s 6d ; milch cows, L 3 ss ; store cows, L 2 10s, L 2 16s, L 3 I7s 6d.
