Wellington Stakes—Cruciform 1, Canteen 2, Greek Maid 3. Also started : Optimist, Kingman, Dirk. Won easily by half a length. Time, 1.2*. Divs., LI 3s 6d and LI 14s.

Metropolitan Handicap — Indian Queen 1, Glenogle 2, Torowai 3. Also started: Goldspur. "Won by a short neck. Time, 1.16 J. Div., L 3 Is. Second Hack— Cure 1, Pure Silver 2, Waitoa 3. All started but Gipsy Jack. Won easily by two lengths and a half. Time, 1.45 J. Divs., LlO 7s 6d and L 3 17s.

Mr C. M. Lepper has accepted the position of stipendiary steward at the Stratford Eacing Club's meeting on March 17th.

A writ hus been served on each of the eleven members of the committee of the Waipawa Racing Club, at the suit of Mr H. H. Bridge, who was formerly for many years judge and a member of the committee, to recover JESOO, with £5 83 lOd interest at the rate of 5 per cent., and J6lB 15s costs. Devoid of legal technicalities, the case is briefly as follows : — Some time ago the committee became guarantors to the Bank of, Australasia for an overdraft of £500. Mr Bridge recently went to the bank and paid off the overdraft, ond is now suing in the Supreme Court to recover the money. It is said that Me Bridge wished to be relieved of his share of the responsibility, but the others were not agreeable except on terms which he would not accept, and he took this method of terminating it. The case will be heard at the next Bitting of the Supreme Court at Napier.

Mr Spence, of the Economic, will com mence his half-yearly sale on Thursday. 18th inst, continuing it for ona month, His London buyer advises a large ship' ment on the way, to make room for which some wonderful bargains will be offered for sale.— Advt.
