MR BARCLAY, M.H.R., ASKED TO RESIGN.

Dunedin, January 23.

A requisition signed by 133 electors, being practically all there are in the Ravensbourne district of the city electorate, has been sent to Mr Barclay, M.H.R., asking him to resign, as bis letters in the Press applying the term 11 infamous " to the action of the Imperial Government prior to the war and its subsequent treatment of Bo»r women, etc., in the concentration earups, are reflections upon the colony and our young men in Africa. The requisitionists consider that Mr Barclay's attitude is a direct encouragement to the enemy, and as " infamous on the part of one who holds the public trust;, and has taken the oath of fealty to the Empire."

Up to this morning, forty applications had been received locally for inclusion in the Ninth Contingent. The Post understands that the Defence Department has decided not to send any nurses with either the Eighth or the Ninth Contingent. A number of nurses from various parts of the colony were desirous of joining the contingents, and sent in applications. Captain Seddon, who served with the Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh Contingents, has applied for a commission in the Eighth. Report has it that the Premier's son will be given command of tho D squadron of the North Island Battalion.
