WHAT IS "DANISH" BUTTER?

What is " Danish " butter ? We have had a great many questions of the character asked lately, and from a report of the British Consul at Reval we may soon have to add this to the Hat. Of tbe 9300 tons of Siberian butter shipped from Reval last year nearly 90 per cent, went to Denmark, " where probably the greatest part of the butter is repacked and then forwarded to tho United Kingdom." It has always been somewhat of a mystery what became of the vast quantities of Siberian butter said to be sent to England, since one never sees it on sale in the shops ; perhaps some solution of the mystery is afforded in this suggestion from Reval. Baron De Soucanton, the Consul in question, adds to this the remark : " British butter merchants might just as well supply their wants by buying direct, whereby doubtless some saving might be made." The Baron is not the only person to whom such a course may appear sound business. The Danish merchants have meantime secured the trade by opening offices in Siberia in tho market places where the butter is sold. There seems to be no doubt about the great future before Siberia as a world-supplier oi foodstuffs. — Exchange.
