COUNTRY POSTAL DELIVERY.

The letter published the other day from an Okaiawa settler, Mr G. H.. Maunder, on the subject of a rural postal delivery, i? worthy of consideration by the Postal Department. As he sayg, there are many parts of the colony where such a system would be a great public convenience ; notably is this so in the thickly settled districts o! Bouth Toranaki, and it is in only in such districts that it could bo attempted owing to its costliness. However, we underhand that there is such a system in operation in the United Btates and in Canada, if we have not been misinformed, and it is a fair malter for enquiry by our enterprising postal department as to whether some such system could not bo introduced here. On most of the roads mail matter is carried past settlers' doors, to a post office perhaps miles away, where it may lie for hours or days according to circumstances, and it vould se & m a comparatively easy thing to arrange for a delivery along these roads. But our correspondent aims at something more than that -a regular delivery up and down the cross roads. This, of course, would be expensive, but if it could be arranged settlers, we are sure, would not mind paying a special contribution to assist in securing the convenience, Cheap postage is a boon to many, but to the country dweller regularity and frequency of delivery is far more important, and anything which can be suggested in this direction is worthy of the most sympathetic consideration.
