LONDON WOOL SALES. 1 RISE IN PRICES. Eeceived January 22, 10.40 p.m.', London, January 22. At the wool Bales, Jaoomb and ton, Balme and Co., and Buxton and Ronald offered 9,494 bales of a moderate selection. Tlhere waß a large attendance. There was a strong demand for merino in all quartors, and 5 per cent, above the December rateß was realised. Stylish crossbred was fully 10 per oont. and slipes and shabby sorts 5 to 7£ per cent, higher. . Americans are operating m the best crossbreds.

On account of the bad weather, the Volunteers will not go .into camp till tomorrow evening. The parade called for this evening is postponed. A bazaar in connection with the Eoman Catholic body will be held here on race nights. In addition to the many other attractions being prepared, there will be fancy dancing by children, who will be trained by Mies Sullivan, of Wellington. Miss Sullivan is now in Hawera. T~At the Australasian Student Christian Union on Tuesday, Dr Smyth, of Wanganui spoke on "Tbe Obligations of the Christian Student to his Fellow Students." In the oourse of an address, impregnated with the ripeßt thought and studded with brilliant passages, Dr Smyth dealt with the student's duties aa a man, as a student, and as a Christian. In the conference upon methods of work, Mr W. A. Mawson, M.A., introduced the set topio, " Some Practical Methods of Influenoing Students to become Followers of Christ." In the discussion that followed, the difficulties and possibilities of such personal work were pointed out. GratificaJ tion was expressed that the executive of the Union had arranged for an evangelistic mission by Mr Frank Lenwood, tutor of Mansfield, now chairman of the British Oolege Christian Union, and at one time president of the Oxford Union. A resolution cordially endorsing this act of the executive was carried. Mr Withycombe gave a model Bible study on " The Parable of the Labourers in the Vioeyard."
