Paris, January 22, In the Chamber of Deputies, M. Etienne said the New Hebrides demanded tbe serious attention of the Government. Australia was trying to supplant France, who owned eight hundred thousand {hectares of land ia the group. If the Government were inactive, the question would become a source of worry. He suggested the abolition of convictism in New Caledonia as a return for Australia makiDg concessions in the New Hebrides.
M. Deloasße, Minister for Foreign Affairs, said France only asked for tbe maintenance of tbe treaties.
