(per press association.) Wellington, January 20. The tournament of the Northern Association was opened this morning by Mr D, J. Nathan, VicePresident of the Association. The first round of inter-club matches resulted as follows : — Kennedy's rink (Bluff Hill) beat G. Court's (Bemuera) by 24 to 17. Crowlev's team (Bluff Hill) beat, Saxon's (Remuera) by 30 to 19. Ross's (Mt Eden) beat Newell's (Ponsonby) by 18 to 10. Hooper's (Mt Eden) beat Stichbury's (Ponsonby) by 22 to 17. Underwood's (Newtown) beat Yates 1 (Napier) by 24 to 21. Barry's (Newtown) beat Evans (Napier) by 25 to 13. MoKerrow's (Thorndon) beat Austin's (Petone) by 21 to 18. Rose's (Thorndoo) beat Johnstons (Petone) by 25 to 18.
