TARANAKI HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The Board met in Hawera to-day. Present : Messrs C. M. Lepper (in the chair), J. Mackay, G. E. Moir, F. Stohr, G. Tisch, G. W. Wareham, W. J. Gray, D. H. McDonald, H. N. Liardet, H. W. Sutton, G. N. Maunder, J. B. Stewart, and J. W. Scott.

WARDSMAN.

John Craig, wardsraan at Hawera Hospital, resigned his position, and in doing so thanked Mr Sutton and the staff.

Mr Sutton said Mr Craig had been a thoroughly good, conscientious man, and if the Board could get anyone like him they should be satisfied. Resignation accepted. HAWERA SURGEON.

Dr. Westenra, Surgeon at Hawera, reported that Nurse Campbell's term of probation bad expired, and that her place was to be filled by a nurse who had been partially trained at New Plymouth. The doctor thought thta practice ■ had been dor.c away with ; be* did not think it a proper one, and advised that Miss Campbell's services be retained until another probationer comes forward. The, doctor also drew attention to the fact that anatomical charts, the furnishing of whioh had been authorised, bad not yet been supplied to the Hawera Hospital. This was a source of inconvenience when lectures were being given the nurses. The matter of the charts will be attended to.

Mr Sutton thought to avoid friction it would be better to avoid sending down nurses trained in New Plymouth. The training in some respects was different. He moved, That Nurse Campbell's services be retained until a new probationer is taken on.

Seconded by Mr Scott. Mr Stohr moved, That probationers trained in New Plymouth be kept at New Plymouth, and vice versa. Mr Stewart did not think there should be a hard and fast rule.

The Chairman said the question was whether the Board's servants were to do aB they were told. By changing them greater experience was gained. Mr Soott agreed with Mr Sutton. He thought the doctor's wishes should be considered.

,Mr Maunder thought variety of-, experience was beneficial, and he thought the nurses should be at the disposal of the Board to serve in whioh~ ever hospital they are required. Mr Sutton's motion was carried.. STATEMENT.

Dr Leatham reported on tbft state of Now Plymouth hospital during November and December.
