ELTHAM.

(from our resident agent.) HALF- HOLIDAY. A meeting of business people was held in the Town Hall last evening, Mr C. Fitch in the chair, to consider the day on which the statutory half-holiday should be observed. Mr E. L. Briant moved, That owing to Messrs Steuart and Corrigan's sale being held on Wednesdays, Thursday be observed as the statutory half holiday. Mr L. H. Hill seconded the motion. Mr Duncan proposed, and Mr Bliss seconded, an amendment that the halfholiday be observed on Wednesday, as at present. After debate, the amendment was lost, and the motion carried. It was decided the Committee should continue in office. Mr Taylor reported a deficiency of £3 12s, and a sub-committee was appointed to collect funds to liquidate it.

A special vote of thanks was passed to the police and nightwatchman for the manner in which the care of the town had been attended to. The meeting then terminated.
