GREAT FIRE IN MELBOURNE.

Received January 17, 10.19 a.m.

Melbourne, January 17. By a fire at Bleasely and Co's, ironmongers, a large five-Btory building was gutted. The third and fourth story stocks, which were very heavy, included large quantities of fireworks and cartridges, which added to the danger, though there was a splendid pyrotechnic display by the continuous discharge of cartridges, but, luckily, no one was injured. The firemen succeeded in preventing it spreading to a store containing gunpowder and explosive oil. The damage is not stated, but besides the gutted floors the stock in others suffered severely from water and smoke. The building was valued at fifteen thousand, and the stock at twenty-two thousand, and insurances twenty- eight thousand.
