WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held on Wednesday. Present : Messrs Bridge (chair), Wilkie, Henson, Borrie, Hastie, Powdrell, and Davies, the newly-elected member for the central sub-division, who took his seat for the first time.

CORRESPONDENCE.

The Treasury Department advised having paid to the Board's credit the sum of £900 on account of the Rama road loan.

Advice was also received that the Department sanctioned the Board taking the necessary steps to raise the additional ten per cent, on the Taikatu and Rama road loans.

The Lands and Survey Department wrote stating that £41 0s lOd had been paid to the Board's credit, being "thirds" due, accrued to 30th September, 1901.

The Under- Secretary, Department of Justice, acknowledged receipt of copy of resolution re sand encroachment at Oeo. • Taranaki County Council asked for particulars, re brambles growing oc road frontages, with a view to taking action in the matter.

COCKSFOOT.

The Hawera County Council forwarded a letter received from W. L. F. Chambers, Opunake, asking for permission to cut cocksfoot grass growing on the main South road between Opunake and Manaia.

The Chairman reported having replied to Mr Chambers that the Board would have no objection to his cutting the grass, but that if he did so it would be at his own risk.

ROYALTY.

The Reserves Agent wrote, acknowledging receipt of a notice from the Board, under the Public Works Act, re Patterson entering native lands and taking gravel therefrom.

The Agent informed the Board that the usual royalty would bo charged, viz., 6d per yard. GOVERNMENT GRANTS. The' Chief Engineer for Roads advised that certain grants made by the Govern ment prior to June last for bridges had been cancelled.
