CRICKET.

HAWERA CO. V. KAPONGA.

By Rikihana.

A one innings match was played between the above teams at Baylv Park on Thursday afternoon. Play" commenced nearly an hour later than the specified time, as per usual. E. Cole, the Kaponga captain, won the toss, and elected to bat. Excepting the captain's well-earned 32, the visitors made but a poor show against the excellent bowling and fielding of the Hawera team, the total only amounting to 62. For the home team, Pratt was the chief contributor of runs, and, although he was badly hurt by a fast one from E. Cole in the early part of his well-played innings, made 41 in excellent style. The two last batsmen, Goodson and Stevenson-, played to the call of time, and added 28 to the score, bringing the total up to 107 for the loss of nine wickets. The three Coles proved themselves trundlers of no mean order, but the fielding of the visitors suffered somewhat in comparison with that of the home club. Up to Pratt's last completed over his bowling analysis read — 9 overs, 8 maidens, 1 wide ball, no runs, 3 wickets. KAPONOA. E. Cole, c and b Pratt 32 L. Cole, c Butts, b Clementson ... 5 W.
