GRADING PORT FOR PATEA.
We understand that the matter of creating a grading port for dairy produce at Patea is not to be allowed to fall through. The dairy factory companies in the Patea and surrounding districts are making a move in the direction of forming a company for the purpose of erecting a freezing chamber at the port. It is certain that if only a proportion of the factories participated the output would be quite sufficient to warrant the erection of works. It may not be generally known that the Patea Harbor Board are willing to grant an excellent site on nominal terms, whilst on a modest guarantee a Wellington shipping firm will build a new boat specially for the trade. Already there are promises of substantial support from several large companies, and it is felt that if those who would save considerably in railage would take the matter up there would be no difficulty whatever. With a view to fully testing the feeling in this district, two delegates (including the secretary of the Waverley factory) intend to start from Patea on Tuesday next, and interview all the companies interested. We are requested by them to ask the different people interested to consider the matter fully in the meantime, so that something definite may be arrived at.
