Wellington, Ootober 8.

The master of an incoming coastal steamer reports that a warship's cutter has been washed up on the beach at Whaterangi station, Palliser Bay, bearing the letter " M " on the bow in gilt rope circle. It is supposed that it belongs to the Mildura, which sailed last week for the Cook Islands with Lord Ranfurly. A heavy southerly gale was blowing at the time, and the probabilities are that the boat was washed overboard.

The Duco left at midnight to search the coast line for wreckage. As the weather was very rough when the Mildura left, it is considered probable the boat was lifted off the 'davits, and broke away. The search is regarded as a mere formality. The work of relaying the portion of the Cook Strait cable which could not be lifted was finished yesterday. It is understood that the Colleotor of Customs will take proceedings against the captain of the schooner Glencairn» wrecked on the Ninety-five Mile Beaoh la3t week, for a breach of tho Merchant and Seamen's Aot for having too large a proportion of boys in his crew. Auckland, October 8.

At a meeting of the committee of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club, it was announced that H. M. Rosengrave, the Australian champion hurdler, would meet George Smith, New Zealand champion, at tho club's carnival next month.
