NECESSARY WORKS.
It is gratifying to note that at its last meeting the Borough Council was presented with what the Mayor called a " live " report from the Works Committee. While awake to the fnct that there is truth in the axiom " A new broom sweeps clean," we incline to the opinion that the members of the new committee are all workers, keenly alive to the interests of the town, and that they will do all in their power to put tho streets in a state creditable to the place. Recently, we drew attention to the need of improvements near the railway station, and it is pleasing to record that the council, on the recommendation of the committee, is about to adopt suggestions similar to those advanced by us. It is proposed to have the cabstand in the centre of the street, and the footpaths will be improved and extended, thus doing away with a longstanding grievance on ihe part of those going to and coming from the station on dark nighes. The improvement of the external appearance of the Borough Chambers and Public Library is necessary, and the other works proposed by the committe will, we feel sure, meet with the approval of the majority of townsfolk.
