THE STOKE ORPHANAGE.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, Octbber 3. At a meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, reference was made to the report of the • Premier's speech on the second reading of the Industrial Schools Bills, wherein he blamed the board and cried shame on it for permitting the conduct of the Stoke School to continue, according to the Press Association report. It was unanimously resolved, That this board considers the Premier's remarks unjust and uncalled for, and considers them unwarrantable coming from the Premier of the colony ; also that a copy of the resolution be forwarded to the Premier. The Chairman, Mr Rout, said their action had led to a sacrifice of friendships and business, and involved great mental strain. He resented the Premier's remarks very strongly.
