LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wednesday, Octobeb 3. The Oounoil met at 2.20. The Criminal Code Act Amendment, Government Railways, and Slaughtering and Inspection Bills were read a third time, and passed. The New Zealand Consols Act Amendment, Midland Authorised Area of Land Settlement, Fisheries Encouragement Amendment, Rotorua Town Council, and West Coast Settlement Reserves Act Amendment Bills were read a first time. The Old Age Pensions Act Amendment Bill was read a second time. The Hon. R. Reeves moved the second reading of the Viotoria College Aot Amendment Bill. The Minister of Education said it was impossible that the College oould be anywhere else than at Wellington to do justice to the requirements of a oollege. Hon. C. C. Bowen suggested the College should be placed on Mount View, at present occupied by the Wei* ling ton Asylum. Hon. W. H. Bolt moved that the Bill be read three months hence. After a lengthy debate, the motion was carried by Id votes to 12. The Council rose.
