PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) , Wellington, October 3. A man named Otto Peter Cars tens, nged 47, formerly a storekeeper on the West Coast, committed suicide early 1 this morning, by hanging himself. He suffered from melancholia, and had been recently under restraint. The Tutanekai has returned to port, having been unable to pick up the shore 1 end of the broken cable in Cook Straits. The steamer leaves again at an early ' hour in tho morning. Wellington, October 4. 1 The value of the gold export for 1 September totalled £162,588, against 1 £114,326 in September of last year.
