Sire, Lord Salisbury (imp.), 114 New Zealand Stud Book ; dam, Jenny Deans, by Governor; grand dam, Jean, by Kettle's Wallace (imp.); great grand dam, Jess, by Champion (imp.); great great grand dam, Big Jess (imp.). St. Clements, by St. Leger (imp.), dam Satanella, by Hippocampus, dam Slander, by Campden, dam Annie Laurie, by (imp.) Cap-a-pie. St. Leger, by Donoaster (Derby winner), dam Atlantis, by Thormanby (Derby winner), has been several years champion sire of New Zealand. St. Clements was a most brilliant performer, having been eight years on the turf, and won more than half his races (vide Turf Registei), besides being placed on numerous other occasions under all weights up'to lOst 71b. Amongst his performances are the Glasgow Plate, 1895, carrying 9st lib, also dead heated with the great Multiform in the same race in 1897, carrying 9st lib, Multiform 7st 61b. St. Clements is fall brother to St. Ursula, St. Peter, St. Olga, and St. Paul, who was looked upon by handicappers as the best horse out in the years 1897 and 1898. Although not much more than a pony in height, he carried lOst 31b to victory, beating such horses as Swordfish, Dougla3, Coronet, Castashore, Record Reign and others. Terms, 4 guineas. ; H. Cissy, who was a good performer, is full sister to Trenton and Cuirassier, half-sister to Niagara, and three-quarter sister to Mary, Zalinski, Mousquetaire, and Havoc. The Musket Frailty strains on the dam's side are well-known, and are pillars of the Stud Book. Castor, Daystar's sire, has the stoutest breeding, his pedigree containing » no less than 12 English Derby winners, 6 St. Leger, 4 Oaks, and 4 2000 Guineas winners. Castor wa3 a great racehorse and out of 26 starts he scored 17 wins, 4 seconds, 3 thirds, being only twice unplaced, the total value of stakes won being . L 4316.
