THE DUNEDIN TRAGEDY.
PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Ddnedin, September 29. Deceased's full name was Thomas Telfer Fogo, and he was 65 years of age. He came here from Victoria in 1861, and settled at Auckland, and afterwards on the West Coast, returning to Dunedin in 1866, when he started a painter's business in the present location, Frederick street. Of late years he drank heavily, this leading to frequent jangles with his wife.
This morning Andrew Fogo, the only son, heard his mother or some one from her room calling out, and running from his bedroom he found his mother's door snibbed. He burst it open, whereupon the almost naked body of his father fell into his amis. Two groans signified that life was not quite extinct, but he must have died immediately as the result of a wound under the left collarbone, from which blood flowed freely. Mrs Fogo was standing in the room with a carving knife in her hand. She said at cmco that she had done the deed, and she made the same confession, to Dr. Closs, adding that" if she had not done it he would have done for her. A similar statement was repeated to the police after her arrest.
Their only family is the son before mentioned and a daughter.
The inquest was opened this evening, and evidence as. to identification having been given by Andrew Lees Fogo, sharebroker, son of deceased, was adjourned till Tuesday.
